Purpose
The Cued Language Transliterator National Certification Examination (CLTNCE) serves as the national credentialing process for cued language transliterators. The CLTNCE is a comprehensive transliterator skills assessment tool designed to assess a transliterator’s skills and knowledge.
Pre-reqs.
In order to register for the CLTNCE, a candidate must first pass the following prerequisites earning the scores indicated. Validity for each of these tests is two (2) years.
CAECS-E | 3.4 for higher (Acceptable)
CAECS-R | 85% or higher
CAECS-F | 3.5sps or faster
These prerequisite tests are not intended to be predictive of a candidate’s readiness for the CLT National Certification Examination. They are meant to alert individuals with pervasive expressive cueing errors, who are not conversationally fluent, or who have insufficient cue reading skills that they should seek further training prior to attempting national certification.
Admin.
Subtests
The CLTNCE is administered by the TECUnit at sites around the country. The test is generally offered once annually. It may be requested for a specific location and timeframe when six (6) or more candidates seek to take the test at the same time.
The CLT National Certification Examination comprises three subtests*: (1) the Knowledge Assessment, the (2) Performance Examination, and the (3) Commentary. All subtests must be passed in order to pass the CLTNCE.
*The Syllables-Per-Minute Assessment is no longer part of the CLTNCE.
