Commentary

The Commentary is a subtest of the CLTNCE wherein candidates view five video vignettes of transliterators working in an educational setting. In each situation, the transliterator faces an ethical dilemma. Following each video clip, candidates are asked two multiple choice questions. First, the candidate must decide the appropriate course of action. The second questions asks candidates to prioritize and identify those tenets of the Code of Conduct that primarily guide that decision based on functional considerations related to the role, responsibilities, and/or duties expected of and modeled by these transliterators in deference to the Code of Conduct.

Questions are presented on screen as well as in a test booklet. The tenets of the CLT Code of Conduct and the RID Code of Professional Conduct are printed in the text booklet next to each set of questions. Candidates are given ten minutes at the conclusion of the test to look over their responses before submitting their response form.

  • No. Sections of the CLTNCE cannot be administered separately. All subtests must be passed in the same test administration.

  • Yes. Quallified CLTs consider the entire code when making decisions. However, certain tenets may be more relevant given the circumstances. The purpose of this test is to determine whether the candidate can choose the appropriate course of action and prioritize tenets that helped guide that decision.

  • The Commentary is administered as a group test. While video vignettes may not be replayed, the questions that appear on screen are printed in text booklets for candidates to review.
